Your air conditioner gets its power from the engine and wastes about 10–15% of gas each year, even when it’s not running. Because of this, the less gas you have in your air conditioner, the harder your engine will have to work to keep your air conditioner running smoothly. So, just like any other part of your car, the air conditioner needs to be serviced every three years. There are three things you need to do to take care of your air conditioner:
• A re-gas
• A treatment to get rid of any mould or bacteria that has built up over the years and could get into your car.
• A pollen filter replacement (if needed) to make sure the air coming into your car is clean and filtered correctly.
Why did my air conditioner quit?
Most problems with the air conditioner come from the fact that it is made up of rubber and metal pipes. Age or not using the rubber pipes can cause them to dry out and crack over time. Because of these cracks, your air conditioner’s gas can leak out, and your air conditioner will stop working in the long run.
If you think your air conditioner might be leaking, Autoworks will add a special dye to it and let it run for about fifteen minutes. After that, we’ll see if the dye can be seen outside of the cooling system. If one of our technicians finds a leak, they will give you a quote for the best possible repair.
